About Us
Food Is Free Inc. is a grassroots, community led not-for-profit group benefitting all Ballarat (Australia) citizens with a focus on those experiencing disadvantage and has a core purpose of assisting and promoting food security and community cohesion and inclusion.
Food Is Free Laneway (corner of Ripon St & Warrior Place Ballarat) started on 18th October, 2014 by founder/Director Lou Ridsdale. Inspired by John VanDeusen Edwards (founder of Food Is Free in USA) as well as Ron Finley and other guerilla gardeners. Food is Free Laneway is a magical space for people to drop off or collect surplus nutritious food (veggies, fruit, herbs etc) for free and connect with the neighbourhood. Food Is Free Inc. was established in April 2016 when Lou saw a need to create a not for profit from the success of the Laneway and community response. All Food Is Free projects are run by an amazing group of passionate and committed volunteers and committee members. If you are keen to volunteer please contact us. Food Is Free Inc. relies on the generosity of the community to sustain itself and gratefully accepts donations no matter how big or small. Help us make a meaningful impact in the Ballarat community by donating today! Together we can create change. |
