Today was a great day!

Took the very passionate horticultural students from @feduniaustralia for a Green Space tour.

We talked about sustainability, localising our food systems, guerrilla gardening, saving seeds, soil health, community fair food, climate change, wicking beds, worm farming, soil minerals, water conservation, bush tucker, recycling, permaculture, weed tea, and so much more!

These fine folks will be volunteering with us as a group on an ongoing basis, and we couldn’t be happier! We are hoping too some will be delivering some workshops to you lucky people.

Come visit us today (Sunday) at @barklysquareballarat for Oasis In The Desert event from 11am - 2pm.

We are in the BRMC entrance courtyard potting up plants with kids for our Little Sprouts program.

This Sunday 11am - 2pm we are hosting a Little Sprouts stall at the @barklysquareballarat for Oasis In The Desert festival, hosted by @bgtballarat for the Ballarat East Town Hall Revitalisation Garden Group.

This is a great gang of passionate volunteers and archivists we lend a hand to and love their project.

Their mission is to restore the culturally significant site to its former glory. Especially focussing on honouring the Chinese heritage of the space, who lovingly tended to it during the gold rush of the 1850s in Ballarat.

Come say hi and pot up some rosemary in a cup to start your own garden. 🪴💛

We loved hosting a stall at the @barklysquareballarat Volunteers Expo today. What a buzz it was with 40 stalls in total.
•
We spoke to so many people- school students, new residents of Ballarat, philanthropists, creatives, fellow volunteers, literal lifesavers from @lifelineaustralia , beekeepers, politicians, health professionals, Rotarians, and everyone in between.
•
It was a really lovely opportunity to celebrate #nationalvolunteersweek with fellow volunteers and acknowledge each others hard work. Special thanks to Jill for helping me (Lou), to engage so many lovely humans.

We popped in to visit some community heroes of ours @common_ground_project in Waddawurrung Country/Angelsea today. These people pour their hearts & souls into creating an inclusive, productive space.

What a joy to hang out in the late autumn sunshine with Hugh, Libby & Amy for four hours learning all about how they run their urban food farm/restaurant/cafe/educational programs & community work. Hugh & Amy also work with @sustainaustralia & @just.food.collective.australia
•
A seriously impressive space, and one of the lucky recipients of last year’s @vichealth food hubs funding.
•
Got loads of important tips we can now use to set up our own urban food farm. Watch this space!! 😁
•

We urgently need a Workshop Co-Ordinator to volunteer their time in assisting an Events Team Leader run a team of volunteers for events and help our Director with Workshop bookings/liaising with facilitators, etc.

Previous experience working with events & volunteers an advantage, but not necessary, as we will train you for the role. You just need to be highly organised, able to work from home for about an hour a week for us (this will ebb and flow), and have excellent online and face to face communication skills. And as a bonus - you get to attend all our workshops for free!

We are on the hunt for a Maintenance Team Leader (volunteer role) to join our fabulous volunteer crew.

If you have prior experience with managing volunteers or coordinating teams, excellent interpersonal skills and great knowledge of fixing, building and maintaining items for our sites (eg affixing trellis onto garden beds, whippersnipper/mowing lawns, fixing broken compost bin lids, screwing in signage, etc etc) we'd love to hear from you.

Some flexibility required for urgent jobs, otherwise we are happy for you to catch up on jobs when you can with your team (we will recruit vols for you).

The sun was shining and the fun times were had today when we hosted not one, not two, but THREE Little Sprouts sessions at @barklysquareballarat with the fabulous Maurs & Louise from @playgroupvicofficial

Giggles galore, dancing, singing, creative nature play and so much more for the kids & family members who came to spread the sunshine.
